Selling your Home Care Business: Handling Calls from Potential Buyers

how to handle a sales call image

Don't get caught on a call without knowing how to handle!

I have fielded several calls over the past few weeks from home care business owners who were considering selling after being contacted by potential buyers.  The owners felt a bit overwhelmed and intuitively grasped that they needed someone in their corner to guide them through the process.  My immediate response was:  darn right, you do!

I explained that most buyers aggressively seeking to acquire are as knowledgeable as they are experienced.  They are used to directing the negotiations on their terms and have an equally skilled team of analysts, VPs, and tested-and-proved processes in place.  The advantage goes to the buyer.

Receiving calls from potential buyers can be frustrating if you haven’t done your exit planning homework.  Don’t let brokers or buyers drive the sale of your home care business.  The buyers didn’t pour their heart and soul into your business.  You did.  The bottom line is:  you are not ready to sell until YOU are ready to sell.

If this is your first time selling a business or conducting a valuation of your business, you want to tip the scales in your favor.  Don’t be distracted by dollar signs and digits. Dedicated and knowledgeable brokers and advisors, who are experienced in home health care mergers and acquisitions – like you’ll find at Partners  31 – is your secret weapon.

Two important questions to ask yourself during exit planning and business valuation are: 1) have I identified my future goals and objectives and 2) will the potential offer help me meet those goals?  Seems simple, right?  But growing a saleable business takes years of planning and preparation.  Growing value in your business, well before buyers approach, is the first step.

You can’t afford to wait until the offers start coming in. Partners 31 can help you understand where you are now and where you need to be in the future.  We can help you decide whether YOU are truly ready to sell.
